The industrial revolution cannot be attributed solely to the genius of a small group of inventors. There is no doubt that genius played a certain role. What we need is the combination of various favorable forces that worked in the late 18th century. Inventors rarely make inventions except under the stimulation of strong needs. Many of the principles underlying various new inventions were known centuries before the industrial revolution, but they were not applied to industry due to lack of stimulation. For example, this is the case with steam power. Steam power has been known and even applied in ancient Egypt in the Hellenistic era, but it is only used to open and close the temple gate. However, in Britain, a new source of power is urgently needed in order to pump water from mines and turn the wheels of new machinery. As a result, a series of inventions and improvements were made until the steam engine suitable for mass production was finally developed. These advantages led to a series of inventions that made it possible for the cotton textile industry to be fully mechanized by 1830. Among the new inventions, Richard ackwright's hydraulic spinning frame (1796), James Hargreaves's multi spindle spinning frame (1770) and Samuel kropton's walking spinning frame (1779) are excellent. Hydraulic spinning machine can spin fine and strong yarn between rollers; With a multi spindle spinning machine, a person can spin 8 yarns at the same time, then 16 yarns, and finally more than 100 yarns; Walking spinning frame is also called "mule frame" because it combines the advantages of hydraulic spinning frame and multi spindle spinning frame. All these new spinning machines were soon producing much more yarn than the weavers could handle. A priest named Edmund Cartwright tried to correct this imbalance. He patented a power loom originally driven by horse in 1785 and steam after 1789. This new invention is poorly made and commercially unprofitable. However, after 20 years of improvement, its most serious shortcomings have been corrected. By the 1920s, this power loom had basically replaced hand weavers in the cotton textile industry.
